Jeremy graduated in 1989, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993 and completing orthodontic specialist training (including study in the U.S.) in 1997. He has been an invited speaker in the UK and overseas, published articles in international dental journals, and won several major national awards.
Jeremy has a special interest in adult orthodontics and multi-disciplinary cases. Having established River Practice in 2008, Jeremy now divides his time between Truro in Cornwall and Better Smiles which is based in Plymouth and Tavistock, Devon.
When not making smiles, Jeremy can be found playing his collection of electric guitars or spending time with his family.

Peter Davis is originally from Truro having attended primary and secondary school in the city. Peter qualified in 1997 from Guy’s Hospital Dental School. He obtained his Master of Restorative Dentistry in Endodontology (MRD) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was awarded a distinction in his Master of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontology (MClinDent) from the University of London.

Dentist with a Special Interest in Oral Surgery & Orthodontics

Daniel’s career to date has been in the RAF, where he spent a total of 27 years as both a dental technician and a medical support officer, before latterly qualifying as a dental surgeon, leaving the RAF in 2013.
He worked as a Senior House Officer in maxillofacial and oral surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth before joining River Practice in late 2013.
With advanced maxillofacial and restorative implant technical experience, Dan has a special interest in oral surgery and orthodontics. He provides all aspects of minor oral surgery for patients referred by General Dental Practitioners or those patients who choose to self-refer to River Practice.
Dan offers dental services such as:
- Orthodontic extractions;
– Extractions of buried or difficult teeth;
– Extractions of impacted third molar teeth (wisdom teeth);
– Exposure of unerupted teeth, including canines;
– Soft tissue surgery inside the mouth;
– Restorative technical advice to General Dental Practitioners (GDPs).
Daniel enjoys renovating his house and cars during his free time, as well as playing golf.
Dentist with extensive experience in Periodontics

After qualifying from the University of Bristol in 1988, Ben joined the Royal Navy, gaining a Green Beret in 1992. He attained the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant Commander and left the services on completion of his commission. Since attaining a Masters Degree in Periodontology from the Eastman Dental Institute in London in 1999, Ben has been working in general and referral practice in Exeter. He joined River Practice in July 2014.
Ben offers a comprehensive service for all periodontal needs including:
- Treatment of periodontitis in all its guises;
– Guided bone regeneration in bone defects;
– Crown lengthening and mucogingival plastic surgery for the correction of recession defects.
His approach to the treatment of periodontitis is based on a non-surgical method and, in the vast majority of cases, this eliminates the need for surgical intervention. Ben also has experience of implant placement and restoration.
In his free time, Ben enjoys gardening, sailing, skiing and family life.
Dr. Vali Mirzayan

Vali is our Implant Dentist here at River Practice.
Dr. Mirzayan graduated from the Swedish Royal University of Medicine and Dentistry (Karolinska Institute) in 1994. He later received his degree of Master of Medical Science in “Implant Dentistry” from University of Sheffield, Department of Maxillo-Facial Surgery and his Post Graduate Certificate in “Sedation & Pain Management” from University College of London. He is currently completing his Masters of Science degree in Restorative Dentistry (Plymouth Peninsula School of Dentistry).
He has also completed more than several hundred hours of post-doctoral curriculum studies and advanced professional education in all aspects of dentistry including restorative and cosmetic dentistry; dental implants, periodontal therapy and advanced oral surgery courses in Sweden, Austria, France and the UK. This enables him to provide you with a comprehensive and modern approach to your oral health.
Dr. Nina Khaira

Nina is a dentist with Special Interest in Aesthetic Dentistry and Restorative Dentistry
Nina graduated with Distinction in 2002 from King's College, London, having already been awarded a variety of undergraduate prizes as well as a BSc in Anatomy in 1999 (completed in 1 year in the middle of her dental studies). In 2004, Nina became a member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and in 2009 became a Licensed Associate of the Faculty of Homeopathy for the use of homeopathic treatments within the dental setting. Nina is also trained in Invisalign® and Inman aligners and to assess, plan and administer Botox and Dermal Fillers. Recent courses include Dental Hypnosis (The Eastman Dental Hospital) and Conscious Sedation (SAAD).
Nina has recently completed an MSc in Aesthetic Dentistry at the King's College, London.
Nina is an all-round dentist with a wealth of experience. She is enthusiastic and positive putting nervous patients at ease. Since 2003, she has been providing dental treatment to adults and children, concentrating on high-quality aesthetic metal-free restorations, crowns and bridges, removal of amalgam fillings using rubber dam tooth-isolation, and using homeopathic remedies as an adjunct to conventional medicine.
Nina has a caring and holistic ethic to her work and aims to provide each and every patient with an individual treatment plan to achieve and maintain both dental and general health.
Nina has recently returned to Cornwall with her husband, a successful Spanish sculptor, and daughter, Vega. She is fluent in Spanish and Punjabi. She loves fine dining, travelling, nature, music concerts and to ski and snowboard.
Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry and Special Care Dentistry
Tamsin qualified at Kings College London in 1983. She worked in hospital and Community Dentistry in South East London until returning to Cornwall to work in the Community Dental Service.
"I taught paediatric and public health Dentistry at both Kings and Guys whilst in London as an undergraduate and post graduate level."
"I also developed a service for children with complex needs and was involved in planning one of the first outpatient dental day surgery services in London."
Cornwall-born Tamsin returned to the county and worked within the Community Dental Service, and with others to set up GA and Sedation services for adults and children in Community and hospital settings.
Tamsin has also been a committee member of the British Dental Association and British Society of disability and oral health. I was also chair of the Cornwall Oral health Advisory group and lead dentist for child protection in Cornwall.
Special interests in helping patients with significant dental anxiety to obtain appropriate dental care. In addition to this Tamsin has an interest in people with communication difficulties in particular people with Autistic Spectrum disorder.
Tamsin has been a regular undergraduate and post-graduate lecturer for dentists, dental nurses and other health professionals throughout her career. Topics ranging from hands on paediatric dentistry to oral health education, hypnosis and Communication skills.
She is married and lives on a small farm with lots of horses, sheep and chickens.

Sean graduated from the University of Manchester in 2001 and subsequently joined the Royal Navy. He has served around the world as a Dental Officer, including with the Royal Marines in Afghanistan and on board the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal. During this time, he became a Fellow of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners, the only Dental Officer to date who has gained this accreditation on-board an operational aircraft carrier.
Whilst a general Dental Officer Sean also obtained further postgraduate qualifications including the Certificate in Dental Health Services Leadership and Management, as well as the Diploma and subsequently an MSc in Restorative Dentistry.
Sean undertook his Orthodontic training at Cardiff University, has since practiced in Germany and is currently the sole naval orthodontist, working out of HMS Drake in Plymouth. He has a special interest in Adult Orthodontics and the Orthodontic-Restorative interface.
Sean currently divides his time between his career in the Royal Navy, The River Practice Specialist Centre and Better Smiles Tavistock. When both a career in the Royal Navy and Specialist Practice allow he can often be found with his wife and children enjoying the many outdoor pursuits that living on Dartmoor allows.

Our dental hygienist Alison has worked in the industry for 25 years, starting as a dental nurse and then qualifying as a dental hygienist in 1993. Alison has undertaken many courses during this time in subjects such as dental radiography, periodontal risk management, advanced non-surgical periodontal therapy and also dental emergency life support training on an annual basis.
Alison’s leisure interests include reading, gardening, walking Tilly the family dog and being a chair of governors at a local primary school.

Lisa has been a qualified dental nurse for over 20 years, the last 10 of which have been spent as the practice manager in a general dental practice. She joined the River Practice in 2012.
As a dental nurse, Lisa gained a wealth of experience in general dentistry, orthodontics and oral surgery, and obtained a postgraduate qualification in nursing for conscious sedation to help anxious patients.
Since moving across to practice management, Lisa has been awarded a Diploma in Practice Management. She enjoys spending time with her family during her free time.

Jo is our clinical manager here at River Practice as well as one of our registered dental nurses, and has been part of the team since 2011. Jo started her career in 1992 and since then has qualified as an oral health educator in 2010 as well as undertaken courses in radiography and taking impressions.
Jo’s favourite part of her job is working with a great team and helping and reassuring patients during treatment.

Our deputy clinical manager Debra has been with us since 2012. A registered dental nurse, Debra also has experience as a chair-side assistant during specialist endodontic, orthodontic and implantology cases. Debra is qualified in radiography and taking impressions.
Outside of work, Debra enjoys spending time with her two young children, horse riding and cycling.
Our head receptionist Jessie started with us in August 2012. With experience in customer care and service, Jessie is on hand to look after River Practice’s patients, and is often the first port of call. In-between expanding her knowledge of dentistry, you’ll find Jessie cooking or enjoying the sunshine with friends (and maybe a glass of wine!).

Michelle is a dental nurse and founder member of the team at the River Practice. After completing 2 years’ full-time dental nurse training at Bristol Dental School in 1992, Michelle worked in hospital and general practice, eventually training to work in the dental laboratory as well as taking patient impressions.

Helen is a very experienced dental nurse. She qualified in 1983 from Bristol Dental Hospital and has worked in both private and hospital dental settings including being an orthodontic nurse since 1989. Helen has obtained dental radiography and oral health educator certificates and says her favourite part of her job is ‘making a difference to patients’ lives through their smiles’.
Helen likes travelling, reading and walking during her free time.

Laura joined River Practice in 2014 as a dental nurse. She completed the Oral Health Education qualification in 2012 and is completed radiography and impression courses in 2015.
Laura enjoys the variety of roles in the workplace, as well as learning new skills in the dental laboratory and surgery.
Outside of work, Laura likes kayaking, surfing, walking, plus spending time with family and friends.
Rebecca joined the team in late 2014 as a business/admin apprentice. She has now completed her apprenticeship, and is now a practice receptionist and administrator.
Rebecca previously worked as a restaurant supervisor and enjoys meeting new people which she says is her favourite part of the job, as well as working in a great team! In her spare time, Rebecca likes to play the guitar and socialise with friends.
